George Michael Estate renews global deal with Warner Chappell Music UK

Warner Chappell Music UK has renewed its worldwide agreement with the estate of singer-songwriter George Michael.

The deal – which continues a partnership stretching back over four decades – covers both George Michael’s solo work and the songs he wrote while he was a member of Wham!

During his career, George Michael sold over 125 million records worldwide. It topped the charts in the US eight times and had seven UK No.1 songs.

He won six Ivor Novello Awards for his writing and also received three BRIT Awards and two Grammy Awards.

The deal renewal comes as Warner Chappell Music has entered into agreements with new partners, from Roblox to Peloton, to enable its songwriters to benefit from the uses of music on these platforms.

It has also expanded its global presence, recently opening offices in cities like Hanoi and Shanghai to tap into the growing Asian market. Such a strategic approach offers opportunities to present the timeless classics of George Michael to even more music fans.

George Michael first rose to prominence as a member of the duo Wham !, alongside Andrew Ridgeley. Their first two albums, Fantastic and Make it big, topped the charts in the US and UK and they’ve had a string of global hits including Club Tropicana, Freedom, I am your man, Last Christmas, The edge of the sky and Wake me up before you go.
