Johnson City Jazz Festival Returns | Life

The 4th Annual Johnson City Jazz Festival, a two-day celebration of live jazz music featuring four stellar bands from across the Southeast playing a variety of jazz styles, is scheduled for March 11-12 at the hotel. Johnson City Carnegie.

“After taking two years off, we are very excited to bring this great musical genre back to Carnegie and the region,” said Steve Scheu, one of the festival organizers. “We heard from many fans that they missed this event a lot. We can’t wait to get the Festival back on track!

Bill Perkins, a local jazz guitarist and the person responsible for organizing performing musicians, said he was very happy to be back at Carnegie.

“This downtime has been a very difficult time for musicians who want to perform together and for fans who want to experience great live music,” Perkins said. “We are delighted that everyone involved in the Festival is gearing up for a big event in early March and hope everyone will come out to listen and support these very talented musicians.”

Performers include trombonist Rick Simerly, jazz singer Lenora Helm Hammonds, saxophonist Zoh Amba and drummer Kenneth Brown.

The cost for Friday and Saturday is $20 for each night or $30 for both nights.

Carnegie Hotel, a major sponsor, is the location for all the shows, which run from 8 to 11 a.m. each evening. There is a special rate to stay at the Carnegie during the event. To reserve, call the hotel directly at 423-979-6400 and ask for the rate for Johnson City Jazz Festival attendees.
