WORTHINGTON — The Josh Abbott Band will headline perform at the 142nd annual Nobles County Fair on Aug. 5 in Worthington.
The evening of musical entertainment begins at 7 p.m. at Worthington Speedway and will include Adam Schwind, a former member of Drake White & The Big Fire.
The Josh Abbott Band has been part of the Texas music scene since its formation in 2006 at Texas Tech University. Their sixth and final studio album, “The Highway Kind,” saw the band team up in mid-2019 with producer Marshall Altman (Marc Broussard, Frankie Ballard, Aaron Watson) for what Abbott calls “the first real group album experience”. the band recorded.
“The Highway Kind” followed 2019’s EP, “Catching Fire,” 2017’s string-and-horn-infused “Until My Voice Goes Out,” and Abbott’s divorce album, “Front Row Seat.” of 2015.
Among the memorable cuts of “The Highway Kind” are the infectious debut single “Little More You”, the ballad “Settle Me Down”, the hopeful “The Luckyest”, the closer memorable album “Old Men & Rain and the lively “Women and Wishes”. Previous Josh Abbott Band hits include “Girl Down in Texas”, “Amnesia”, “Wasn’t That Drunk”, “She’s Like Texas”, “Oh, Tonight”, “Touch”, “I’m Your Only Flaw and “The night is ours.”
The Josh Abbott band joins a recent string of popular country music artists performing at the Nobles County Fair in Worthington. Joe Diffie, who has had 12 No. 1 hits and more than 20 Top 10 singles in his career, played fair in 2019. There was no fair in 2020 due to COVID-19; and Montgomery Gentry’s Eddie Montgomery played the fair in 2021.
“Every year we can present a national act, we’re thrilled,” said Nobles County Fair Board Chairman Corey Gronewold. “Country acts seem to get the most people, and this year we’re changing things up a bit. Friday night we’re going to have a number, then we’re going to have a premiere, then we’ll have the Josh Abbott Band and, after that, we’re going to have a kind of rock band in the beer garden the aim is to keep people on the pitch all evening and all night and to have music numbers it gives the adults a chance to enjoy the musical festivities and their children to enjoy the carnival at the same time.
Advance tickets go on sale May 1 and are only $10 through July 4. Tickets are $20 from July 5 until the night of the show and can also be purchased at the door. Tickets can be purchased on the Nobles County Fair website and on Radio Works.
