Sign friendship with Merge Records and share new single ‘Ugly Little Victory’

It’s springtime in Durham, NC, and that means budding flowers, longer days and, this year, a brand new member of the Merge family! You heard it here first: Friendship, the Philadelphia-based band of Dan Wriggins, Michael Cormier-O’Leary, Jon Samuels and Peter Gill, will release their next album worldwide on Merge Records in 2022.

We’ll have a lot more beans to spill on the album soon, but ahead of the dates with Indigo De Souza that kick off tonight, Friendship is delivering “Ugly Little Victory” to the world, a song that’s been making the rounds on the band’s setlists for a few years. years, but has not yet been published…until now!

When reached at Davenport’s Raccoon Motel, Wriggins had this to say about today’s announcement:

If there’s a label that does better than Merge, we haven’t heard of it, and we’ve heard of a lot of musical stuff. We are excited for the beyond. In the words of Hank Williams, “Move on, cold dog, because a hot dog is setting in!”

Friendship’s roots go back to Yarmouth, Maine, the small town where Wriggins, Gill and Cormier-O’Leary grew up. (Friendship takes its name from Friendship, Maine, about an hour from Yarmouth on the coast, but it’s neither here nor there.) They moved to Philadelphia in 2015, and the band Friendship has since grown. expanded and contracted since, releasing multiple EPs and linking with Orindal Records in Chicago for Shock Out of Season in 2017 and Dreamin’ in 2019 (Orindal also released Wriggins’ solo EP Mr. Chill last year).

Friendship has traveled America tirelessly, earning a devoted cult following from Wawa to In-N-Out. Catch them when they come back to your town.
