Six Picks Music – The Best of Local Music This Weekend: Schemers, Nakeds, Roomful and Country Legends


It’s a “Best of RI” weekend on “Six Picks,” featuring a country music legend or two. Here’s our weekly column of some of the best gigs in the area. This week we include several bands enshrined in the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame. Have a nice week end!

Friday: Best live rock’n’roll band in RI? The schemers, who will make things happen The encounter at Pawtucket Friday night starting around 8 p.m. They’ll be playing down the hall from the RI Music Hall of Fame where they were inducted in 2015. Not too bad! Details here.

Saturday: RI’s best rhythm and blues ambassadors? Room full of bluesalso members of the RI Music Hall of Fame (2012), will be at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 399 Hope St. in Bristol on Saturday evening. The whole weekend: Are you looking for a guitar genius? Look no further… RI Music Hall of Famer and guitarist extraordinaire Neal Vitullo has a busy schedule as always this weekend. Friday, him and his gang the vipersare playing Chan’s at Woonsocket; On Saturday you can hear them at Cheeky West ; and Sunday, don’t miss their weekly residency at Hometown Tavern to Warren. Saturday: Hello, neighbor! Tavern on the Hill in West Greenwich has a legendary party band Steve Smith and the Nudes Saturday night. Yup, 2013 RI Music Hall of Fame inductees “the Nakeds” are back on regular dates, check out their schedule here for details.

Saturday: Country Legends Marty Stuart and superlatives are rolling in the Greenwich Odeum in East Greenwich on Saturday night for a long-awaited show. The five-time Grammy Award winner began his career in the 1970s playing with bluegrass great Lester Scruggs and later toured with Johnny Cash. A good pedigree there. Friday: What a career! Who recorded 28 albums and had 35 #1 singles? The unofficial “Queen of the Country” Reba McEntire, which will be at Foxwood’s Premier Theater on Friday night. Details here.
