Produced in association with Hall for Cornwall and supported by Arts Council England and The National Heritage Lottery Fund, it sees the music of acclaimed composer Graham Fitkin bring exploration of the city to life for locals and tourists visiting Truro.

Using their cellphones and headphones, people can walk the streets of Truro and hear them brought to life by Graham’s music.

No matter which route they take, the different musical sections combine to create a linked composition.

The app was produced by Michael White in association with Hall for Cornwall.

Composer Graham Fitkin said, “I wanted people to explore and interact with their urban environment not just with their eyes but also with their ears, guided by what they hear as well as what they see and perhaps gain be new perspectives on the place.

“It’s designed so that wherever you go and however long you travel, a seamless audio work is created and each listener creates their own soundscape ‘mix’ unique to their journey.”

Different tracks have been composed for different “courses” – be they roads, paths or sidewalks – through the urban landscape, depending on the decisions made by each listener during their journey. Alternatively, they can experience music remotely by taking their virtual human for a walk around the map of Truro.

Julien Boast, Managing Director and Creative Director of Hall For Cornwall, said: “We aspire to be at the forefront of creating new work, both in and out of theatre, and are committed to supporting artists of all disciplines. So when the opportunity to combine working with Graham Fitkin and new application technology in our History and Heritage program came together, it seemed like a perfect mix.

Along with the ability to experience music across hundreds of streets in an endless number of ways, app users can also record their journey and remotely replay and share their compositions with friends via text, email and social networks. Audio description is also available in the streets of the city center to help the visually impaired.
